Impacting Building Efficiency Through Early-Stage Analysis [Whitepaper]

With the push for zero-carbon buildings intensifying, architects are under increasing pressure to design buildings that are both functional and environmentally friendly.

A new whitepaper by IES and Chaos, Designing for Impact: Enhancing Building Performance Through Early-Stage Analysis, highlights how conducting early-stage analysis can significantly enhance a building’s energy efficiency and sustainability.

By incorporating early-stage analysis into the design process, design teams are able to make informed choices about crucial factors such as site selection, building orientation, material use, and lighting strategies. These decisions have long-lasting effects on a building’s energy consumption and carbon footprint.

This new whitepaper discusses the challenge architects face and highlights the advantages of incorporating building performance analysis early in the design process. The whitepaper covers:

  • The challenge: Just 41% of AIA members are using building performance simulation to improve the energy performance of their designs, despite recognition that it is an essential part of building design and delivery.
  • The performance gap: There are often significant discrepancies between compliance predictions and the actual measured consumption of buildings in operation – known as the performance gap.
  • Barriers to adoption: There are several barriers currently preventing more widespread adoption of building performance simulation in the early design stages.
  • Benefits of early-stage analysis: How integrating performance simulations early on results in more efficient, comfortable, and cost-effective buildings.

Introducing Enscape Impact (beta)

The Designing for Impact whitepaper accompanies the release of Enscape Impact, a new tool that effortlessly integrates real-time rendering with building performance metrics. As an add-on to Enscape, it allows architects and designers to enhance building performance and sustainability directly within their workflow, all while preserving their creative vision.

Developed in partnership with IES, experts in sustainable analysis technology, Enscape Impact provides baseline building performance analytics to guide sustainable design choices from the start. Learn more about it here.
